The Little Building on the corner of Boylston and Tremont St. at golden hour

One of the best perks of my job is having the excuse — under the guise of writing a magazine story — to talk to incredibly interesting people.

Earlier this fall, I had the pleasure of interviewing Matt Shearer ’09, a WBZ NewsRadio reporter in Boston whose popular man-on-the-street interviews — as seen on TikTok and Instagram — earned him recognition from Boston magazine as 2023 Best Social Media Personality and helped WBZ’s TikTok account win a coveted Edward R. Murrow Award this year. (Side note: In my effort to be a diligent fact-checker, I logged on to TikTok for maybe the fifth time ever, I admit — only to somehow lock myself out of my account. I know, I know.)

Matt’s story is part of a larger one on journalism at Emerson and how the College is staying relevant in a continually evolving field.

With each issue of Expression, it is a privilege to be able to tell the stories of Emersonians who are out there making a difference, doing exceptionally Emersonian things.

Thanks for reading.
