Jean Peckham, business manager in the Athletics Department from the early 1970s to the early 1990s, died December 22, 2021, in Maryland. She was 92.
The wife of longtime Emerson athletics director Jim Peckham, she joined the Athletics Department to help out for a few months after a student assistant left, and she ended up staying for two decades.
“Her warmth, grace, and example spread her influence across the College, far beyond her core role as business manager for Athletics,” said Interim President William Gilligan, who was a colleague of the Peckhams for a decade, starting in the early 1980s.
The Peckhams’ steadfast teamwork extended beyond their work lives, as they demonstrated by running a wrestling camp, Earning the Right to Win, out of their Weymouth, MA, home every summer for 24 years.
A native of Revere, MA, Peckham was a graduate of Revere High and Burdette Business School. She and Jim were married 60 years, until his death in 2011.
Peckham leaves behind her children, Diana and Matthew; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, among other family and friends.
