Mary Higgins, MA ’05, recently concluded a 22-year career in the College’s Office of Government and Community Relations, retiring from Emerson in September. She began her tenure in 2002 as an administrative assistant and most recently served as the director of community relations from 2014 until her departure. Higgins said she looks forward to the next chapter of her career.

1. What is your idea of perfect happiness? Sitting on a beach with my sister watching the sunset.

2 If you could study any field aside from your own, what would it be? Interior decorating.

3 Whom do you most admire? My parents.

4 What are three adjectives you’d use to describe Emerson? Inspiring, creative, passionate.

5 Where is your favorite spot at Emerson? The Lion’s Den.

6 Which words or phrases do you most overuse? “Are you serious?”

7 What do you consider your greatest achievement? I survived seven older brothers!

8 What’s your greatest regret? Not having children.

9 Who are your favorite writers? Harlan Coben, Ken Follett, Michael Connelly.

10 What’s the best movie you’ve seen in the last year? Air.

11 If you could have dinner with one person—alive or dead— who would it be? Michelle Obama.

12 If you could have any super power, what would it be? Healing power.

13 Coffee or tea? Definitely coffee.

14 Beach or mountains? Mountains.

15 Broadway or Hollywood? Broadway.

16 If you could spend 48 hours in any city around the globe, where would you go? Paris.

17 What song are you most embarrassed to love? “Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” by Bobby McFerrin.

18 You’re stranded on an island. What three possessions would you not be able to live without?
Water, music, and books.

19 What is your motto? Pay yourself first!
